Agriculture is something simple?
Agriculture is linked to the history of man has been the basis of the diet for thousands of years. Almost everyone has a grandfather, a grandfather or a father who has made farmer. We've all seen people very easily take care of your garden. Probably all may seem that agriculture is something very simple, accessible to all, only involves planting, watering and harvesting. Nothing could be more untrue. Agriculture is one of the most sophisticated technology in the hands of humans, starting with genetic selection that has been made over thousands of years, continuing the development of different technologies adapted to each driving weather ... Agriculture is enormously complex systems: living systems (soil and plants, animal species typical of livestock). To define improvements in agriculture requires enormous intellectual effort and experimental work.
The development of agricultural techniques adapted to poor producers, and technology transfer in this sense, is a difficult challenge that requires joint efforts of technologists and scientists from different disciplines. The use of water and the proper use of each specific type of soil requires knowledge of engineering geology and soil science, farm buildings, irrigation systems, the systems of energy production, ... require knowledge in engineering physics. Managing living systems require training in agronomy, biology, chemistry. Marketing, management of cooperatives and small businesses require knowledge of economics, business management. The processing of agricultural products to allow their preservation, or increase its value requires specific knowledge of engineering, chemistry, architecture, .... In short agriculture is nothing simple, quite the contrary.
The university has the potential to provide high-value capital for the development of agricultural techniques suitable for producing poor training of skilled technically, scientifically and personally.
Agriculture in the broadest sense
In this paper we talk about agriculture in the broadest sense. Agriculture not only in terms of vegetable production, but together as agriculture. Where we need to understand that livestock must also include own production of aquaculture. Agriculture not only as a production system, but including the preservation, processing and marketing of production. If we include the latter task is clear that the term "agriculture" we are including, for example, and agricultural industries, cooperatives and companies producing and marketing.
The current research in agriculture
Unquestionably currently searching Farming & upcoming technologies is enormous. But research is aimed at improving the technology of the rich and powerful. Since multinationals and government organizations since it makes a significant effort to improve the production, quality and process optimization. There is almost research aimed at improving agricultural production in impoverished communities. Only some international organization like the FAO, is currently working on this.
Need for research and technology transfer in IC in agriculture
You must make a research on different scales. Research to develop more productive agriculture in different regions of our planet, as the FAO is conducting research and technology transfer at microscale, developing processes adapted to specific needs.
From a college can participate in both types of research. On the one hand participant, or directing, regional research projects, and otherwise accumulated knowledge and technology transfer subsequently made from concrete experiences.
